In August I will be finishing my coursework for my MS in Interactive Entertainment at the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA) in Orlando, Florida. This specialized Master’s program is one of the fastest-growing and most prestigious game development degrees in the United States.
FIEA’s curriculum is industry-led and project-based so students get a lot of real-world experience. Faculty includes Ben Noel (former COO EA Tiburon, VP Origin), Rick Hall (Executive Producer EA, Take Two), Tom Carbone (Lead Programmer Madden Football), and Dr. Paul Varcholik (Lead Software Engineer EA).
This 16-month program ensures that students are equipped with the tools to play an active role in the game industry. In fact, hiring managers from companies like EA have told us that FIEA graduates have the equivalent of 2-3 years industry experience. Go to www.fiea.ucf.edu if you’d like to find out more about the program.
Throughout the course of this program I have worked on teams that have created four rapid prototypes and one port. Additionally our Capstone development team has made a mobile music game for IOS that will be released on July 28th 2013. This has afforded me the opportunity to work through a full project cycle and contribute to the production, engineering, and QA aspects of the project.
